"What's Your Motivation?"

This past week I have spent a few days witnessing at the open house for the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple of the LDS (Mormon) Church with my friend Rob Sivulka. Rob runs the MormonInfo.org/JosephLied.com web site. We both have been asked by different people, “what’s your motivation?” The person asking is usually a Mormon and seems sincere. At first, I usually reply with a simple one word answer, “Jesus.” Of course, the LDS person usually responds that they too believe in Jesus. It is true that the Mormon believes in a Jesus, but is their Jesus the same Jesus of the Bible? If the person worships the Jesus which is taught by the Mormon leaders, then, sadly, they believe in a Jesus that is a creation of their Heavenly Father. One major difference is that Mormons worship a Jesus that was a spirit brother of Lucifer (1). This is not Biblical. The Bible clearly illustrates that Jesus is God the Creator. A few Bible verses to share with the LDS to illustrate that Jesus cannot possibly be a spirit brother of Lucifer/Satan, but the Creator of ALL things are Colossians 1:15–17:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Jesus is clearly the Creator of Lucifer/Satan. Jesus is God. He made this claim throughout His ministry on Earth. (Mark 14:61–62; John 5:18, 20; 8:58; 10:30–33).
This is only one example that explains that Jesus of Mormonism is not the same Jesus of Bible believing Christians. I wish I could say that pointing out the differences causes the Mormon to drop to their knees and begin praising and following the true Jesus of the Bible, but I have yet to see this happen. However, I believe that seeds have been planted. I may not see the harvest in this life, but I rejoice in the hope that I will one day see the fruits of my labor in Heaven. This is why I will continue to share Jesus with the Mormons and the lost. This is what motivates me.

Regrets, I Used To Have A Few

I am two months away from my 53rd birthday. I have been looking back on my accomplishments and failures throughout my life. I used to have moments of regret. I used to regret that I had ever joined the Mormon church. I used to regret I left college my senior year to serve an unsuccessful mission in OK for said church. I used to regret I never returned to graduate from college. I used to regret I spent many hours serving in a church in which I lost a testimony. However, I lost those regrets a long time ago. I now look upon these regrets as great achievements. If I had never become a Mormon, I would never have visited OK. I would never have had my 2 daughters, 2 sons and helped raise my step-daughter. My two daughters and oldest son are now wonderful adults. My step-daughter, who I am blessed to have had in my life since she was 5, is in high school. I have no doubt that she too will be a wonderful adult. My youngest son will finish kindergarten in May. I would never have met my wife and best friend, if I had never been Mormon. My first marriage may have been a failure, but my second marriage has brought me much happiness and purpose. The greatest success in my life has been due to past failures. My greats success has been following Jesus. It wasn’t until I met my second wife that Jesus became my center. When Jesus became first in my life, what I deemed as failures became stepping stones towards true meaning for my life. Regrets, I used to have a few, but Jesus changed my perspective. For this, I am eternally blessed.

Long Time No Post...Merry Christmas

Still soundly saved, but very busy. I am hoping to write more often. Times passes quickly. As I type this the world prepares to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I am on the phone a lot for work and I have been encouraged by the many people who wish me a Merry Christmas. In the politically correct world in which we live, the standard has been to simply wish people a Happy Holiday. However, many of my clients tell me that they want to honor Jesus and proudly wish everyone Merry Christmas. I applaud those who want to honor Jesus. However, I have wondered about the motives of a few of these people when they go on a diatribe about how they refuse to say, "Happy Holidays." Their motives seem more political than honorable.

Don't get me wrong. I love wishing others a Merry Christmas. However, I think we honor Jesus more through our lives, not our words. It is my desire to talk less and let my life be an example of Jesus. For too long I have told others what I believe, but now I will let others see what I believe through being more involved with helping those who are less fortunate than me, being present with my friends and family (which means less time on my tablet), praying for and with others and any other way  God guides me.

This all being said, I do wish everyone a "Merry Christmas." However, I hope that my life will always show you that I ALWAYS celebrate Jesus' birth, death and resurrection. Jesus is the "reason for the season," but of more importance Jesus is the reason I have hope and life eternal. God bless us, everyone.

Yes, Mormons Do Believe They Can Become Gods

The press is reporting that Mormons don't believe they will become gods. This is simply not true. When I was a devout Mormon, I believed that I would one day have an eternal family and be a god. I, also, did temple work for the dead because I believed they deserved a chance to reach Exaltation too (assuming that I would have reached godhood). The Mormon church hasn't changed there doctrines. The leaders are simply making their beliefs more palpable for the masses. The thinking seems to be a quote that has been attributed (though this has been disputed) to the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels,  "A lie repeated often enough becomes the truth." So which "truth" are we to believe the media or the official web site for the LDS church? What does this say when "reporters" can't even visit the Official web site of the LDS church?

...Blessings of Exaltation

-What are some blessings that will be given to those who are exalted?

Our Heavenly Father is perfect, and He glories in the fact that it is possible for His children to become like Him. His work and glory is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39).

Those who receive exaltation in the celestial kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ will receive special blessings. The Lord has promised, “All things are theirs” (D&C 76:59). These are some of the blessings given to exalted people:

1.They will live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see D&C 76:62).

2.They will become gods (see D&C 132:20–23).

3.They will be united eternally with their righteous family members and will be able to have eternal increase.

4.They will receive a fulness of joy.

5.They will have everything that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have—all power, glory, dominion, and knowledge (see D&C 132:19–20). President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote: “The Father has promised through the Son that all that he has shall be given to those who are obedient to His commandments. They shall increase in knowledge, wisdom, and power, going from grace to grace, until the fulness of the perfect day shall burst upon them” (Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954–56], 2:36; italics in original)....

Why the Bill Nye Debate With Ken Ham Matters

Did the debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham change anybody's mind, or did it only reinforce the viewers' current beliefs on the topic? Personally, my view wasn't changed. I do think that this debate helped the Creationist position because most well known  Evolutionists and Atheists would rather not have Creationists like Ken Ham given any credibility. For this reason, you don't see the Atheist Richard Dawkins Foundation  supporting such an event (see Why Bill Nye shouldn't debate Ken Ham). Sadly, now Pat Robertson has injected himself in the debate by criticizing Ken Ham (and every other Young Earth Creationist) by stating  "We have skeletons of dinosaurs that go back 65 million years...To say it all dates back to 6,000 years is just nonsense...No one knows what caused the Big Bang, but I say God did it..Let's be real, Let's not make a joke of ourselves." The ironic thing is that the liberal media outlets like The Huffington Post (see Pat Robertson Disagrees With Creationist Ken Ham, Says 'Let's Not Make A Joke Of Ourselves') are finally embracing Pat Robertson and his opinions. Go figure. The debate is a big win for Creationists and Ken Ham in general.  Whether you think Bill Nye or Ken Ham won the debate doesn't matter because now, much to the chagrin of groups like the Richard Dawkins Foundation, the Creationist platform is being discussed and given credibility. It, also, has many talking about God and Christianity. Sorry Atheists. Because of this, I give this round to God and the Creationists who are the big winners this week. However, I have no doubt God wins in the end. Well played God, well played.

New Wolves In Sheep's Clothing At My Door

Recently a group of people knocked on my door to invite me to their church.  I thought they were Jehovah's Witnesses because they weren't wearing white shirts and ties.  However, they were dressed in their "Sabbath" best and very polite.  They introduced themselves as members of the World Mission Society Church of God (not to be confused with the denomination Church of God).  When I told them that I wasn't interested they all began questioning me about whether I knew about "God the Mother?" This made me rethink whether they were actually an offshoot of Mormonism. They told me that "Heavenly Mother" was alive and the Bible proved it.  They, also, said that I did not worship on the true Sabbath.  I told them I wasn't interested, and shut the door.  Instantly I wondered if I should have engaged them in a discussion. My wife Lesley left for the store shortly after this encounter. During her trip she saw a different group of people talking to a lone man. She told the man, who seemed perturbed by her interruption, that he should not listen to them because they were a cult.  One of the church members told her that there were different types of cults: dangerous and regular. She invited them to come back some time to discuss the Bible, gave them her number and continued on her errand. She told me about the encounter, but we thought we would never hear from them again.  A couple days later a man named Charles called and asked if they could come by the same night for a Bible study.  I agreed, but was concerned that we only had a few hours to study their church and doctrines.  However, I knew that God would gives us the words to share the truth with them.

Ahn Sahng Hong the man
worshipped as Jesus' 2nd
coming by the WMSCOG

Two members of the WMSCOG arrived shortly after the appointed meeting time.  They were dressed very sharply and seemed very humble .  They introduced themselves as Dante and Charles.  Charles was a good 15 to 20 years older than Dante, but it was very clear from the start that Dante was the man in charge.  Thankfully, they did not ask to pray with us.  After a few uncomfortable minutes of chit chat, Dante began to share scriptures that he said proved that Jesus had already returned a second time. All the scriptures were related to Jesus' First Coming.  When I would point this out, he stated that the scriptures were a mystery to those who weren't members of their church. He stated that Jesus' Second coming would have to last 40 years because Jesus was to reign on David's Throne. I interrupted him and explained he was misinterpreting scripture and prophecies. I told him that I knew he was attempting to show me that a Korean named Ahn Sahng Hong was Jesus.  He stated that I obviously had been looking online at sites critical of his church. This reminded me of my days as a Mormon.  It was always shoot the messenger because the message could never be correct. Dante seemed uncomfortable.  He wanted to show me in the NIV Bible that his church had the New Jerusalem. I asked if this was in Korea.  I asked him if this is where Heavenly Mother lived? About this time Charles started chiming in that of course there is a Heavenly Mother because all creation has a mother. He also told me that Dante met Heavenly Mother when he went to the Korea (which happens to be the birthplace of their false Jesus and false Heavenly Mother aka Zhang Gil Jah). The discussion that night didn't last much longer.  I asked Dante and Charles
Zhang Gil Jah
aka Heavenly Mother
if their Heavenly Mother would die like their Christ Ahn Sahng Hong? I asked them what they would do if this happened. Dante said that he could not allow himself to ponder that question.  I told them that she would die and that somebody else will step into her place claiming to be the one, and that they will remember our conversation. They said this would never happen. Lesley and I shared with these deceived men that our God lives.  We shared that Jesus will come again and every knee shall bow.  I asked why this didn't happen in Korea with Ahn Sahng Hong. Dante said they needed to go. I asked them if they wanted to get together again, or were we "dead" (a term they use for non members of the WMSCOG which Dante confirmed for me) to them. To our amazement they agreed to meet with us.  The second meeting was very short. I met with them by myself. Dante and Charles were once again very polite until I told them that we needed to end our study because they continued to twist and manipulate the Bible for their false beliefs. Charles began to attack me for stating what I believed and felt. He stated that they shared the Bible and that they did not share their beliefs. Dante sat quietly during this short visit. Charles seemed to want to get out all their pet doctrines like the Saturday Sabbath, the Cross as merely the instrument in Jesus' death and that Christmas was a pagan holiday.  I told them we were done. Charles said Lord's blessings to me as they got up to leave. I told him that 2 John 1:10 did not allow me to give them any encouragement and that they were no longer welcome in my home.

These men have remained on my mind and in my prayers since our last meeting. I ask that you pray for Dante and Charles' salvation and deliverance from their cult. Though the names of their leaders and the name of their church were different, the message is just as false as all the other cults. Satan may change the locale and names, but he continues to present the same old scenarios to trick the lost. However, the new wolves will never be victorious over the true Jesus of the Bible. Jesus lives and He is not found in a grave in Korea.
